Circulation Services and Policies

Renew items you have checked out

Material may be renewed if it has not been recalled by another patron. Renew your materials using the Catalog Renewal Service if you do not have any recalled or overdue library materials. Materials may be renewed up to three times, after which they must be returned to the library for renewal. Periodicals and other restricted materials may not be renewed online.

Reserve Items

When a professor has required readings for a specific class, the instructor may place the material "On Reserve" at one of the libraries. Reserve materials are checked out for two (2) hours of library use only. This brief lending period gives everyone in the class the opportunity to review the material. "Reserves" are found at the circulation desk of each library. Some reserve material also may be available online.

Bound Periodicals

Bound magazines and journals may be checked out by FSU and other Florida public university graduate students, faculty and staff for one day

Recalls
A user may request that a recall be placed on library material that is currently charged out by clicking on "place a hold" next to the item in the library catalog. The person who has the material currently charged out is notified via email of the recall and the adjusted due date. Only current FSU students, faculty and staff are allowed to recall library materials.

If a patron has an item that is charged out and then recalled by another patron, a new due date is set. This recall due date becomes the official due date of the material, regardless of the original due date. Late recalled items are treated as normal overdue items and assessed .25 per day per item. Non-returned recalled items are billed for replacement cost after they are 30 days overdue.

The patron who placed the recall is notified via email when the material has been returned and is ready to be picked up. Materials are kept on the hold shelf for 10 days.

Search Requests

If a patron is unable to locate an item on the shelf in the stacks, he or she can request that a search be initiated to locate the material by submitting a search request form. The patron is notified via email when the material has been located.

Remote Storage and Subbasement Requests

Items identified in the catalog as located in remote storage or in the subbasement may be requested by submitting a remote storage request. Items requested from remote storage or the subbasement will generally be available for pickup within 24 hours, except over weekends and holidays.

Rush Cataloging Requests

If the material has been received, and the status shown in the catalog as "in process," a rush cataloging request may be submitted. The material will be cataloged as soon as possible and sent to the library where the material will be located. The patron is notified via email that the material is available for pickup at the circulation desk of that library.

Overdue Materials

All patrons are responsible for returning library materials on or before the date the material is due. Due dates can be found online by logging into your library account. Fines are detailed on the Borrowing page

Damaged Materials

Patrons are billed the cost of replacement or repair of materials.

Payment of library charges

Library charges can be paid at the Office of Student Financial Services http://controller.vpfa.fsu.edu/Student-Financial-Services/ or at the FSUCard Center http://www.fsucard.fsu.edu/. FSU faculty, students, and staff may pay library charges online at: http://fees.fsu.edu.
