When a professor has required readings for a specific class, the instructor may place the material "On Reserve" at one of the libraries. Reserve materials are checked out for two (2) hours of library use only. This brief lending period gives everyone in the class the opportunity to review the material. "Reserves" are found at the "Reserves" counter near or at the circulation desk of each library. Some reserve material also may be available online.
Renewals
Material may be renewed if it has not been recalled by another patron. Material may be renewed online at using the Online Catalog Online Renewal Service if the patron does not have any recalled or overdue library materials. Materials may be renewed up to three times online, after which they must be returned to the library for renewal. Periodicals and other restricted materials may not be renewed online.
Reserve Items
Loan Period
2 items for 2 hours' in-library use only.
Fines
25 cents per hour per overdue item, with a maximum of $20 per item. Faculty are not assessed fines.
Electronic reserves
Articles or book chapters can be put on electronic reserves and are accessible electronically at all times. Strozier Library electronic reserves is available at http://eres.lib.fsu.edu but access is limited to authorized FSU users. Reserve guidelines are available here.
Bound Periodicals
Loan Period
One-day checkout for FSU and other Florida public university graduate students, faculty and staff.
Recalls
A user may request that a recall be placed on library material that is currently charged out. A recall form must be submitted to initiate the recall. Forms are available online here. When material is recalled, the person who has the material currently charged out is notified by a notice or via email of the recall and the adjusted due date. Community college patrons may not recall library materials.
If a faculty member has an item that is charged out and then recalled by another patron, a new due date is set. This recall due date becomes the official due date of the material, regardless of the due date stamped in the back of the book. Faculty members are assessed a fine of 25 cents per day per item that is not returned by the recall due date. When material is thirty days overdue, borrowing privileges are suspended until overdue material is returned and the suspension is cleared.
The patron who placed the recall is notified via email when the material has been returned and is ready to be picked up. The materials are held behind the circulation desk for 10 days.
Search Requests
If a patron is unable to locate an item on the shelf in the stacks, he or she can request that a search be initiated to locate the material by submitting a search request form. Forms are available online here. The patron is notified via email when the material has been located.
Remote Storage and Subbasement Requests
Items identified in WebLUIS as located in remote storage or in the subbasement may be requested by submitting a remote storage request form. Forms are available online here. Items requested from remote storage or the subbasement will generally be available for pickup within 24 hours, except over weekends.
Rush Cataloging Requests
If the material has been received, and the status shown in WebLUIS is "in process," a rush cataloging request may be submitted. Forms are available online here. The material will be cataloged as soon as possible and sent to the library where the material will be located. The patron is notified via email that the material is available for pickup at the circulation desk of that library.
Overdue Materials
Patrons are responsible for returning library materials on or before the due date of the item which is stamped on a slip in the back of each item. This date can also be found online by logging into our Library Catalog. Fines are assessed at the following rates and non-returned materials are billed for replacement cost after they are 90 days overdue.
General collection:
25 cents per day per overdue item, with a maximum fine of $5 per item.
Reserves collection:
25 cents per hour per overdue item, with a maximum fine of $20 per item.
FSU faculty are not assessed overdue fines. However, when material is 60 days overdue, borrowing privileges are suspended until overdue material is returned and suspension cleared.
Faculty of other Florida public universities are not assessed overdue fines. However, non-returned materials are billed for replacement cost after they are 30 days overdue.
Students, faculty, and staff of Florida community colleges are assessed overdue fines at the normal rate. However, non-returned materials are billed for replacement cost at 90 days. At this time, borrowing privileges are suspended until overdue material is returned, the fines paid, and suspension cleared.
Damaged Materials
Patrons are billed the cost of replacement or repair of materials.
Lost or Non-Returned Materials:
Patron is billed for the replacement cost of lost or non-returned materials.
If a user knows that library material has been lost, he or she may fill out a lost book form and the fine accrual will be stopped on the date that the form is submitted. Forms are available at the circulation desks in Strozier and Dirac.
