Course Reserves
Instructors may request that course readings be placed on Reserve at one of the libraries or made available electronically on Blackboard. Reserve materials may be checked out for two (2) hours of in-library use. This brief lending period gives all students in the class the opportunity to review the material. Reserves are located at the main service desk of each library. Policies regarding reserves are available at http://www.lib.fsu.edu/services/materials/reserves
Loan Period
2 items for 2 hours' in-library use only.
Fines
25 cents per hour per overdue item, with a maximum of $20 per item. FSU Faculty are not assessed fines.
Bound Periodicals
Loan Period
One-day checkout for FSU and other Florida public university graduate students, faculty and staff.
Recalls
A user may request that a recall be placed on library material that is currently charged out. A recall form must be submitted to initiate the recall. Forms are available online here . When material is recalled, the person who has the material currently charged out is notified by a notice or via email of the recall and the adjusted due date. All patrons are guaranteed library material for three weeks before it may be recalled. Only current FSU students and FSU staff and faculty are allowed to recall library materials..
If a patron has an item that is charged out and then recalled by another patron, a new due date is set. This recall due date becomes the official due date of the material, regardless of the due date stamped in the back of the book. All patrons are assessed a fine of 25 cents per day per item that is not returned by the recall due date. Non-returned recalled materials are billed for replacement cost after they are 30 days overdue.
The patron who placed the recall is notified via email when the material has been returned and is ready to be picked up. The materials are held behind the circulation desk for 10 days.
Search Requests
If a patron is unable to locate an item on the shelf in the stacks, he or she can request that a search be initiated to locate the material by submitting a search request form. Forms are available online here . The patron is notified via email when the material has been located. If the library material is not found, the patron will be notified that they may request the material via ILL.
Remote Storage and Subbasement Requests
Items identified in the catalog as located in remote storage or in the subbasement may be requested by submitting a remote storage request form. Forms are available online here. Items requested from remote storage or the subbasement will generally be available for pickup within 24 hours, except over weekends.
Rush Cataloging Requests
If the material has been received, and the status shown in catalog is "in process," a rush cataloging request may be submitted. Forms are available online here. The material will be cataloged as soon as possible and sent to the library where the material will be located. The patron is notified via email that the material is available for pickup at the circulation desk of that library.
Overdue Materials
Patrons are responsible for returning library materials on or before the due date of the item. This date can be found online by logging into our Library Catalog. Assistance with due date information may be obtained by calling the FSU Libraries. Fines are assessed at the following rates:
General collection:
25 cents per day per overdue item, with a maximum fine of $5 per item. Non-returned materials are considered lost at 60 days overdue, and the patron is billed for replacement plus a $25 processing fee per item. FSU faculty members are not assessed overdue fines. They are, however, billed 25 cents per day for not returning recalled items.
Reserves collection:
25 cents per hour per overdue item, with a maximum fine of $20 per item.
Recalled Items:
25 cents per day per overdue item, with a maximum fine of $5 per item. Non-returned materials are considered lost at 30 days overdue, and the patron is billed for replacement plus a $25 processing fee per item.
Damaged Materials
Patrons are billed the cost of replacement or repair of materials plus a $25 non-refundable processing fee per item.
Patrons may provide a new copy of the damaged item and pay only the $25 processing fee. New copies purchased for the library must be the same edition. If material is out of print or no new copy can be found, the patron must pay the damage fee and processing fee as assessed by the Library Fines Management Office. Replacement copies will not be accepted for Interlibrary Loan materials
The new copy will be delivered to the Library Fines Management Office, where charges to the patron’s account will be amended to reflect the receipt of the replacement materials. Patrons will be notified within 1 week if their replacement copy is acceptable.
Lost or Non-Returned Materials:
Non-returned materials are considered lost at 60 days overdue, and the patron is billed for replacement plus a $25 non-refundable processing fee per item. Non-returned recalled materials are considered lost at 30 days overdue, and the patron is billed for replacement.
If a user knows that library material has been lost, he or she may fill out a lost book form and the fine accrual will be stopped on the date that the form is submitted. Forms are available at the circulation desks in Strozier and Dirac.
Patrons may provide a new copy of the lost item and pay only the $25 processing fee. New copies purchased for the library must be the same edition.
