Special Borrowing Permits for the Strozier, Dirac Science, Engineering, Goldstein, College of Law, and Maguire Medical Libraries are available only to the following:
- Visiting scholars and researchers affiliated with an FSU department
- Florida government employees (state or county)
- Federal government employees
- Staff and students in special FSU programs
Applications can be submitted to a service desk at any library on campus and MUST include supporting documentation, such as an official letter from the applicant’s employer or a letter of reference from an FSU academic department.
Special Borrowing Permits for the Allen Music Library can be obtained at the Music Library.
Alumni and members of the general public can obtain borrowing privileges through joining Friends of the Library. Alumni of the College of Law may obtain borrowing cards directly from the Law Library.
Special Borrowing Permits are non-transferable and valid for 12 months. Upon expiration, the borrower may renew provided that there are no library charges against the holder and the patron has complied with library regulations. Decisions may be appealed to the Head of Collections Access in Strozier Library.
Special Borrowers are allowed to check out 30 books at a time for three weeks, and may renew materials online up to three times. Special Borrowers may not check out periodicals or videos. Interlibrary Loan and remote access to databases are not available to Special Borrowers.
Special Borrowers are subject to the circulation policies of the lending libraries.
