Article Databases - Most Useful

ERIC (CSA)
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related literature. The ERIC database corresponds to two printed journals: Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE). Coverage from 1966 -

ERIC is also available from First Search and HW Wilson. CSA, First Search, and HW WIlson are the same resource, but have different search engines, so which to use is a personal preference.

Education Index Retrospective & Education Full Text
Education Index Retrospective (1929-1983) delivers cover-to-cover indexing of an international range of acclaimed English-language periodicals, monographs, and yearbooks. Education Full Text is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles of at least one column in length from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the United States and elsewhere.
JSTOR
A database of the back issues of core journals in the humanities, social sciences and sciences. The gap between the most recently published issue of any journal and the date of the most recent issue available in JSTOR is from 2 to 5 years.
PsycINFO (CSA)
Online version of Psychological Abstracts, 1887 to present. Covers journal articles, book chapters, books, technical reports, and dissertations, in psychology and psychological aspects of related disciplines. Some links to full text.
ISI Web of Science
Includes Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. Links to some full text. Formerly called Web of Science. Now part of the Web of Knowledge.
Educators Reference Complete
Contains journals and reports.  Provides full-text results for nearly half of the journal titles found in ERIC. This database covers multiple levels of education from preschool to college, and every educational specialty.

Applied Science & Technology abstracts

Children's Literature Comprehensive Database
Contains more than 75,000 critical reviews of thousands of children's books, ranging from the earliest baby board books to novels and nonfiction for young adults, and an average of more than 1500 new reviews are added to the database monthly. Dates covered are mainly 1993 - present with some older records from 1965.
Dissertation Abstracts/Digital Dissertations ( Full-text Dissertations Available until 5/1/09 )
Covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the U.S. at accredited institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's theses and foreign language dissertations. Titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital form full-text.

Library Literature and Information Full Text
The definitive index in the library and information science fields. Indexes some 220 periodicals and more than 600 monographs per year from 1984-Full-text coverage for selected periodicals is also included. Tests in Print
Produced by the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements at the University of Nebraska, Tests in Print (TIP) serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. TIP provides vital information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s). A score index permits users to identify what is being measured by each test. Tests in Print is directly linked to the critical, candid test reviews published in the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) series. Users can research current test information from the TIP series and continue their search to all available test reviews published in the MMY series. Tests in Print is an indispensable reference for professionals in areas such as education, psychology, business, as well as those interested in the critical issues of tests and testing.

The directory contains 350 quality controlled scientific and scholarly electronic journals that are freely available on the web. The service will continue to grow as new journals are identified. The directory resides at Lund University and is supported by the Information Program of the Open Society Institute and SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition).
