In the First Person: Index to Letters, Diaries, Oral Histories, and Other Personal Narratives
The first release of In the First Person indexes more than 2,500 collections of oral history from around the world. With upcoming releases, the index will broaden to cover other formats (letters, diaries, autobiographies, and so forth) and the proprietary content in the Alexander Street collections. By the end of 2005, the index will point to 350,000 pages of full text and 3,500 collections-more than a million pages of editorially selected materials spanning 400 years. IRWI: Information Research Watch International
IRWI: Information Research Watch International reports new, ongoing and completed research in information and library science and related fields from around the world. Compiled from records supplied by the researchers themselves, the database gives access to information about current research prior to its appearance in the published literature, with details of researcher affiliation, research funding and funding bodies, duration, status of project and researcher contact information. The database currently contains over 8,500 records from more than 70 countries stretching back over 20 years. The database is compiled by the Editor, Liz Rowan, from unpublished reports of research into library and information science (LIS) and related fields such as museums, archives and records management; print and broadcasting media, publishing and book selling; information and communications technologies and telecommunications associated with information storage, preservation, retrieval and dissemination. Project entries are accepted in any major European language, but English is preferred. The Editor uses a wide range of resources, from contributions by individual researchers, industry and institutional research contacts and regional and national research databases, through to monitoring web sites of academic institutions, professional associations and research funding bodies throughout the world. Project reports range from postgraduate theses/dissertations, practitioner case studies, or university research up to large-scale national and international projects supported by major funding bodies such as the National Science Foundation or the Institute of Museum and Library Services in the USA, the Joint Information Systems Committee in the UK or the Information Society Technologies Programme managed by the Information Society DG of the European Commission.
