The Friends include individuals and organizations valuing the vital role of libraries in learning, teaching and research. The Friends support the FSU Libraries in their efforts to contribute to Florida State University’s stature as an outstanding research university. The Friends support the Libraries by heightening awareness of the Libraries’ resources, services and needs; by sponsoring programs that stimulate intellectual and cultural interchange; by providing financial support to enhance library resources and services; by supporting the fundraising efforts of the Libraries; and by fostering communication, through publicity as appropriate and through a website within the Florida State University Libraries’ website, helping to call attention to programs and events and including an archive of the Friends’ previous activities.

Annual Banquet The 2011 Annual Friends banquet participants were treated to a superb presentation by Rodney L. Hurst, Sr., author of "It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke".

Conference Sponsors The Friends Sponsors and Co-Sponsors conferences with the Florida State University Libraries, such as The Future of the Book two-day conference.

Annual Banquet The Friends Annual Banquet is held in March of each year.

The Florida Book Awards The Friends sponsors an award for the best Florida authors each year in February

Symposiums Sponsoring symposiums such as The Persistence of Evil, the Friends bring scholarship to the University Libraries.

Banned Books week The Friends draw attention to the problem of censorship by mounting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events.

Freedom to Read In the last week of September, the Friends join community and campus leaders at noon each day to hear banned books being read.
