Child with Books by Lewis W. Hine (ca. 1920-1940)

In most academic libraries, Strozier included, there is no “fiction section” like there is at your favorite public library or bookstore. We do have fiction, but we treat it like the rest of the books that we buy—we catalog it with a Library of Congress call number so that it is arranged on the shelf by country and time period of the author, and then we interfile the books with criticism on the books.

But there are ways to find “a good read” in the stacks!

Finding Books & Media

Fiction can be found in two main ways: by searching the online FSU Library Catalog and by browsing the aisles at Strozier.

When searching the online catalog, a basic search will let you search by keyword, title, author, subject or call number. An advanced search will let you search by a combination of these fields, as well as by format, language, location, and date. Searching by the subject headings listed below may also be helpful.

When browsing the aisles, you can start by browsing the new book shelf at the front of Strozier Library's 1st floor. The majority of fiction, however, will be on the 5th floor of Strozier Library. The Library of Congress classifications listed below may be helpful when browsing these aisles.
