Applying for Human Subjects Approval (IRB) and Avoiding the Pitfalls

- Presenter:Ms. Julie Haltiwanger, Research & Legal Counseling
- Description: FSulie Haltiwanger, with the FSU Office of Research will discuss the process of applying for Human Subjects Research Approval from the FSU Institutional Research Board (IRB). All research involving living humans must be approved prior to conducting the research. Ms. Haltiwanger developed the online application and works closely with graduate students and faculty regarding human subjects approval.
Writing & Publishing in the Social and Behavioral Sciences

- Presenter: Dr. Arthur Raney, Department of Communication
- Description:A FSU faculty member from the Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) disciplines will conduct this workshop. The presentation will cover the publication process and how to organize and construct a paper. The faculty presenter publishes in peer-reviewed journals and will share his advice for writing in order to be in a better position for getting papers published.
Writing Scientific Papers, Part 1

- Presenter: Dr. Anne Thistle, Department of Biological Science
- Description: This workshop will be led by a FSU faculty member who is also an experienced editor, and will be conducted in two sessions. The first session will cover the scientific publication process and how to organize and construct a scientific paper. The second session will address problems encountered by writers of scientific English and ways to shorten, tighten, and strengthen scientific writing.

Business, Corporate and Non-Profit Jobs: Search, Interview, Negotiate

- Presenter:Dr. Janet Lenz, Educational Psychology and Leadership Services
- Description: FSU faculty will discuss preparing and dressing for a nonacademic interview (e.g., industry, private business, government) and will describe the types of questions to expect during the interview as well. The etiquette of interviewing situations (e.g., when dining) will also be discussed.
