Introduction to Text Encoding

Please note that this workshop requires registration. FSU affiliates must register through LibCal (clicking "I'm interested" will not register you!). Non-FSU affiliates should register through the PLAN page.

This 2-day workshop will introduce participants to the Text Encoding Initiative Guidelines for marking up documents. We will cover creating document metadata with the TEI header, marking up named entities and creating contextual data for documents, describing textual features like structural divisions and physical features and more. This is a perfect opportunity for DH-interested researchers to learn about an essential digital methodology. It is also useful for Florida librarians and archivists who are participating in the Sunshine State Digital Network to learn how to enrich digitized materials and raw OCR’d text.
