Expedited Article Tutorial

Please Note: The Expedited Article service is only available for faculty and graduate students, and only for certain articles. The article must be from one of the journals that FSU recently lost access to due to our licensing changes and published within the past five years.

Using Expedited Delivery through ScienceDirect

There are several ways to use the new Expedited Delivery service. The easiest and probably most familiar way is through the Find it @ FSU link in the ScienceDirect database. To start, navigate to the Science Direct database using the library’s AZ list here:

https://www.lib.fsu.edu/eresources/s

Click on the ScienceDirect link:

If you are off-campus, you will be asked to sign in using your FSUID and password. Once you are in the ScienceDirect database, search as you normally would for articles or journals. If there isn’t a “Download PDF” option for your article, you can attempt to have this ordered for you through the Expedited Delivery service. First, click on the “Get Access” link on the top of the page:

Now, click on the Find it @ FSU link that appears:

You will be shown the options for accessing this article. There is a chance FSU Libraries may have this article available in another database, if so these options will display on the screen. If there are not any options for immediate access, you will be shown the option for Expedited Delivery. Click on this link to proceed.

You may be asked to sign into the website with your FSUID and password to verify you are a current faculty or graduate student. (Please note that the Expedited Delivery service is only available to current faculty and grad students.) If the article is from one of the Elsevier journals that FSU has recently cancelled, your order will be processed and you’ll be presented with this message:

Instructions for accessing your article should arrive in your FSU email within about two hours.

If your article is outside of the criteria for Expedited Delivery, you’ll be shown the screen below which explains why your request was unable to be processed. Do not worry though, you can click on the “Request this Article through Interlibrary Loan” link to take you to our ILL service, along with all the article information needed to make the request. Interlibrary Loan can typically deliver the article to your email address in 24-48 business hours.

If you have any problems or questions about this process please send an email to lib-erm@fsu.edu.

Using Expedited Delivery through the Interlibrary Loan service

You can also try to request an article using our Interlibrary Loan service. There are a number of ways you can get to Interlibrary Loan, but the quickest is going directly to the service using this link:

https://www.lib.fsu.edu/service/interlibrary-loan

Sign in using option 3.

Once signed in, click on the “New Request: Article/Chapter” link on the left hand side.

You will be asked to fill in the article information for the request, and you will be given the option of either standard “Interlibrary Loan” or “Expedited Article Service”. Select the latter as shown below:

Please note that if you request an article through Interlibrary Loan using the Find it @ FSU menu, the article information will be prefilled for you, so it’s usually easier to find the article using either the ScienceDirect database or OneSearch.

Your request will be processed and if the article is eligible for Expedited Delivery, instructions for accessing your article should arrive in your FSU email within about two hours.

If there is an issue with your article and it is not available through Expedited Delivery, you should see an error in the status column for your Outstanding Requests:

Using Expedited Delivery through OneSearch

You can also use the Expedited Delivery service using OneSearch discovery from the front page of the FSU Libraries website. This is useful if you know the exact article title you are trying to access. Type in the name of the article (with quotes) into the search box and click the search button.

Usually the article will be presented in the first or second result. You will want to click on the Find it @ FSU icon to find options for access.

You will now be shown the options for accessing this article. There is a chance FSU Libraries may have this article available in another database, if so these options will display on the screen. If there are not any options for immediate access, you will be shown the option for Expedited Delivery. Click on the link shown in the screenshot below to proceed.

You may be asked to sign into the website with your FSUID and password to verify you are a current faculty or graduate student. (Please note that the Expedited Delivery service is only available to current faculty and grad students.) If the article is one of those that FSU recently cancelled, your order will be processed and you will be presented with this message:

Instructions for accessing your article should arrive in your FSU email within about two hours.

If your article is outside of the criteria for Expedited Delivery, you will be shown the screen below which explains why your request was unable to be processed.
