Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to first, second, third, and people's choice winners. Prizes will include a 3D printed trophy and SSDN swag bag.

Judging Criteria

Submissions to Gif It Up, Florida! will be judged on 3 categories:
  • Creativity: how the original source material is transformed to create a unique GIF.
  • Technical Execution: level of skill or craft that can be perceived to have been used in creating the GIF.
  • “Floridaness”: how well the GIF captures or communicates some aspect(s) of living in Florida and/or the State’s history, culture, or aesthetics.

2020 Judge Bios
 
Hélène Huet, PhD, is the European Studies Librarian at the University of Florida. She is also the Chair of the Florida Digital Humanities Consortium (FLDH), a collective of institutions in Florida that seeks to promote an understanding of the humanities in light of digital technologies and research.
 
Barbara Mennel is a Professor of Film Studies at the University of Florida, where she is also the Rothman Chair and Director of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere.
 
Dr. Anne Préstamo is the Dean of Libraries at Florida International University.  Prior to that, she served as Associate Dean for Collection and Technology Services at the Oklahoma State University Libraries from 2005 through 2013 and held the Claud D. Kniffin Professor of Library Service and Education endowed professorship, with prior positions as Head of Digital Library Services, and Science & Engineering Librarian. Dean Préstamo has been at the forefront of leading libraries’ technological and philosophical evolution from print to digital collections, discovery tools, and services.
 
Elliot Williams is the Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian at the University of Miami, chair of the SSDN Metadata Working Group, and 3rd place winner of Gif It Up Florida 2019.
