2019 November Universal Children's Day Display

Universal Childrens’ Day was established on November 20, 1954, as a day to celebrate and promote international cooperation and awareness of the needs and rights of the child. Four years later, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child formally establishing,

“Every child, without any exception whatsoever, shall be entitled to these rights, without distinction or discrimination on account of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status, whether of himself or of his family.”

For the month of November, Florida State Libraries celebrate this national holiday with a “Universal Children’s Day” Government information display. We have gathered a collection of different UN and federal documents declaring the rights of international children. Publications that research the status of child welfare and how to promote it internationally have been selectively chosen for this display. We wish to promote education, cooperation, and creativity to build a better and safer world for our international children.
