Mission and Vision


The Special Collections & Archives Division of the Florida State University Libraries supports and advances research, teaching, and engagement by acquiring, preserving, and providing access to collections of original manuscripts, rare books, and university archives for use by students, faculty, and researchers worldwide.  

As part of its mission, the Special Collections & Archives division preserves the cultural and historical record, serves as the institutional memory of FSU, and promotes multidisciplinary research. 


The Special Collections & Archives division of the Florida State University Libraries will achieve national recognition for building, preserving, and providing enhanced access to unique and distinctive collections. The division will play a vital role in fulfilling the educational mission of the university by partnering with FSU faculty in integrating the use of special collections into the curriculum and providing an active learning environment for educating students on research methods utilizing primary sources.
