Traveling Scholars

A number of services are available to FSU faculty who are visiting or conducting research away from campus.

Reciprocal Borrowing Programs

A valid FSU Card or ID from a home institution may be used for reciprocal borrowing privileges at the libraries included in the Florida College System and Florida State University System.

U.S. Research Universities

Through the OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing program, FSU faculty may gain borrowing privileges and on-site access to some of the major U.S. research university libraries that participate in the program.  Check with your subject librarian to get a reciprocal borrowing card before visiting one of these university libraries.

FSU Print Library Materials

FSU’s Interlibrary Loan service can send books and digital copies of book chapters and journal articles from the FSU collection to you if you are outside Leon County.  Faculty who will be away from FSU for an extended period of time and want books from the FSU collection sent to them at a temporary location, should change their home address and status in their ILL user information profile (under Tools on the Main Menu).  Home address should be changed to reflect the temporary address.  Status should be changed to Distant Learner.  It’s important to change this information when leaving the temporary location and returning to campus.

Interlibrary Loan

Journal articles that are not available at FSU may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.  They will be sent digitally to your ILL account.  It is not recommended that books from other libraries be sent to a temporary address.

Internet Access

Eduroam is a service providing free, secure WiFi access at over 5,000 locations in the U.S. and worldwide. Visit for a list of participating institutions.  Set up instructions for electronic devices (i.e. iPad, Android, and Mac OS X) can be found on by clicking here.
