About Heritage & University Archives
The Florida State University Heritage & University Archives (HUA) program collects, stewards, and promotes access to records of enduring value documenting the institutional and cultural history of Florida State University and its predecessor institutions. This includes university records, student organization records, and papers of faculty, students, and alumni. We collect and preserve items in all formats, including born-digital materials.
The Heritage & University Archives was established as Heritage Protocol in 2007. Spurred by preparations for FSU’s 150th anniversary, the program was established by alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the university who wanted to do more to document and preserve FSU’s history. Because the University Archives did not collect alumni memorabilia, the FSU Alumni Association began to accept donations of such materials. These materials became the start of Heritage Protocol, which was jointly sponsored by the Alumni Association, University Relations, and University Libraries. In 2012, Heritage Protocol was moved within FSU Libraries’ Special Collections & Archives and merged with the University Archives. Shortly thereafter, the program was renamed Heritage Protocol and University Archives. In 2018, the name was changed to Heritage & University Archives, better reflecting the mission of the program today.
